FAQ

Why did you choose “furiousfeather.com” for the art domain?
The main medium I use for my work is inking quills and pens alike. I draw very fast and sometimes wield the quill almost violently ^^;, hence the term Furious Feather.

Tell me more about the domain and the layout!
This site came to be with the gracious help of my dear friend Meg. She and I designed and created my Cosplay domain together and she was kind enough to help me again with this site. The domain was registered in July though I’d had the idea for Furious Feather for many months now. It was launched on….. and is maintained by me. All artwork have been scanned individually and re-sized for the site, and the layout was created in Photoshop with my hand drawn designs and art. FuriousFeather.com is currently hosted by Dreamhost.

How long have you been drawing and why did you start?
Like most children, I’ve doodled around since I could hold a crayon. But drawing became a real hobby, and shortly after an obsession, around the time I moved to Germany in 1989. I was told the Legend of Lorelei, a siren on the Rhein River that sent ships wrecking into cliffs with her irresistible song and painted a picture of her. My parents and friends were so impressed that it motivated me to do more art. After getting hooked on shoujo manga it was inevitable for me to keep drawing.

What mediums do you usually use?
I mainly use ink, colored pencil and watercolor. Ink is my favorite medium, and it is also the medium I know how to use the best. Watercolor is great for over-size artwork, but colored pencil is easily transported and doesn’t make a mess so I’ve come to rely on it a lot. I like doing pencil work once in a while and have also used acrylics before. My newest coloring mediums to play with are Copic Markers and Photoshop. I work with a good range of sizes for artwork, the largest size I can find being 25 x 36.

Will you teach me how to draw?
I used to offer local drawing lessons but I hardly have time anymore these days. I am also still learning and wouldn’t be much help beyond the basics.
You can find tutorials online and I’d suggest to enlist in a short art related course at your local college to get to know the basics like perspectives and proportions. Manga art isn’t taught anywhere in the US so the only way to learn is with a lot of patience and determination. Start with Fan-art first. ^_-

Why don’t you offer a Tutorial Section?
Usually online tutorials are most useful when explaining how to work with a computer program. I do all of my work strictly on paper. In the future I may consider a Tutorial is the demand is there but it’s a time-consuming process and I don’t have much free-time right know.

Why do you have these watermarks spread across your images, it takes away from the art!
The watermarks are unfortunately unavoidable. I have had multiple incidences in the past with stolen artwork and people pretending to have drawn my pictures because I didn’t have obvious enough watermarks on them. It also prevents thieves to print out the images without my consent. In the art world, copyright issues are serious and often nasty so the watermarks are just a way of protecting myself.

Can I use your pictures on my website/ for a layout/ for personal use?
Please e-mail me before taking anything from this site, all images are copyrighted to me and I reserve the printing right for them. I usually don’t mind having art displayed on multiple sites as long as I am credited and linked. I probably would also be flattered if you used an image of mine for your site layout so don’t hesitate to ask! For personal use, I offer a Print shop here were you can purchase a high quality print of an artwork (signed by me) for a reasonable price. ^_^

I found an image of yours on a website/printed somewhere without any credit or link to you, do you want the URL?
YES PLEASE! I would greatly appreciate reports of any incidences of my art being misused, copied or stolen - please give me as much info as possible so I can contact the people involved. Thank you very much!

May I link your domain?
Of course, please feel free to choose any of the banners located in the Links Section. I am very flattered that you would do that for me! Thank you!

Please link my site to yours?
I am usually very open to linking people so please email me your link and I will look through your site and most likely link you. I like to keep my links within the realm of fantasy and Japanimation art as well as my favorite series/sites.
